question

The basis of our faith is the Word
of God. If we are to be confident and bold in our evangelism,
we must first be assured our foundation is strong. It is
fitting, then, that we start this study with an examination
of the claim of inerrancy for the scriptures.
The Believers Study Bible notes state:
"Secularists deny the inspiration of the Bible, choosing
to believe it is merely a human book, written by fallible
human authors. Unfortunately, even some professing Christians
question its inspiration. But Bible-believing Christians
have always held to the belief that the Bible is the inerrant
Word of God."
Scripture tells us to test what we
hear to be sure it is from God.
I Thessalonians 5:20 Do not despise
the words of prophets, 21 but test everything; hold fast
to what is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil.
I John 4:6 We are from God. Whoever
knows God listens to us, and whoever is not from God does
not listen to us. From this we know the spirit of truth and
the spirit of error.
If the scripture is our foundation
it must be the basis on which we test what we hear.

How
do we deal with differing translations? Once we begin
to recognize the difficulty of translating ambiguous
terms from the original Greek and Hebrew, do we open
the floodgate to liberal translations? |

In
legal documents there is a severability clause that allows
the legitimacy of the document as a whole despite minor
errors in certain sections. Why is it so important that
each and every word of the Scripture be absolutely true
and accurate in order for the Bible as a whole to be
our guiding document? What is the purpose of Scripture? |
